Northumberland Tourism

Past Projects

Many of these projects are still ongoing:

Media Relations

In 2014 Northumberland Tourism worked with CLEAR Communications Inc. to grow its working relationship with key influencers in print, broadcast and social media and increase Northumberland County's media exposure as a tourism destination.  This effort generated earned media in media channels in print and digital i.e. blogs and social media. See a sampling of what travel media are saying about Northumberland.

Greenbelt Cycling Route

Launching in July 2015, Northumberland County and municipalities along Ontario's Greenbelt area are working with the Waterfront RegenerationTrust to develop the Greenbelt Cycling Route, a signature cycling route which would help rural areas around Toronto both recreationally and economically. The project is supported by the Greenbelt Foundation and will create a network of multi-use trails and cycling routes. "It will put us on the map by offering something comparable to (Quebec's) Route Verte experience," said Marlaine Koehler, Executive Director of the Waterfront Trust. Funding will also support signage, creating digital downloadable maps to assist with the marketing of this proposed signature route.

New Top 5 Driving Route Map

This new touring publication highlights must-see and-do activities in different areas of the County, and capture the best of Northumberland's scenic routes and waterways.

Group Tours and Newcomers Market

Northumberland Tourism is partnering with the Northumberland Immigration Portal Coordinator to target the newcomer market and expand our group tour market. This has created a collaborative partnership with Brotherhood Tours and Time of Your Life Tours, marketing to over twenty Toronto-based settlement agencies and their respective clients in order to increase traffic to Northumberland businesses.

New Marketing Campaign

A new marketing campaign is being developed and is designed to raise awareness of Northumberland County among potential visitors in the GTA and beyond, broadening their perception of what the region has to offer. Launching in early summer 2014, this campaign will highlight our top tourism experiences, as determined by our visitors, and it will feature Northumberland as a fun and unique destination offering outdoor fun, neat eateries, unique accommodations and a wide variety of experiences for an easy getaway especially for GTA visitors.

Trip Planner

Using technology to make travel planning easy and fun for our visitors, Northumberland has collaborated with Kawarthas Northumberland to develop an itinerary planner.  This custom tour tool will link attractions to other points of interests, guiding visitors with a visual and an audio commentary - stories and all, to make their driving tours in Northumberland even more memorable.

Kawarthas Northumberland 2014-215 Strategic Plan

Strategic planning is underway for the Kawarthas Northumberland region. The Regional Tourism Organization 8 Board members and the 3 regional tourism offices are working with Richard Innes of Brain Trust to assist in the development of a strategic plan for RTO8. The strategy will guide the organization's implementation plan for the next 2 years and enhance current efforts to support the tourism industry with experience and workforce development, as well as marketing initiatives. The strategic plan will be presented to industry partners in the spring Regional Tourism Organization 8 AGM in May 2014.

Newly developed website was re-launched in February 2014.

Ontario Welcome Cyclist Partnership

For tourism  partners, the Ontario Welcome Cyclists Partnership is a program certifying and promoting bicycle friendly businesses and cycle tourism in a growing number of regions across Ontario. The progarm is open to accommodations, food services, attractions, cycling related businesses and organizations who are interested in cycle tourism. Northumberland Tourism is a founding member of the Ontario By Bike.  In 2011 Northumberland initiated the first Welcome Cyclists Gateway Signage Pilot project which has received provincial recognition. This signage is now being implemented by other Ontario regions and through partnership with the Welcome Cyclist Network organization.
